An LBCC student was struck by a car that ran a red light while crossing Carson St. at the Liberal Arts Campus on Tuesday at around 1:15 p.m. today.
The student is an unidentified female who sustained minor injuries according to Officer Kevin Stinson.
“She’s being transported to a local hospital for precautions, but she had no major scrapes or cuts,” said Stinson.
The car that was involved in the accident ran a red light.
Eyewitnesses corroborated that the student who was struck was crossing during a pedestrian walk light when a car traveling eastbound on East Carson Street ran a red light and hit her.
“I was facing towards the street and saw the walk sign was on but had begun counting down, and then a car just kept driving,” LBCC student Marcus Williams said.
“The car tried slowing down a little bit, but the sound it made when she was hit was still pretty loud,” added Williams.

“I had my back turned to the street, but I was on the sidewalk when I heard a loud noise behind me and I turned around and saw her lying on her back,” LBCC student Mia Larios said.
LBCC officials are still working with the authorities while the full details of the accident get processed.
“We don’t have the details on everything that happened but we’re still working with police to get all the information,” said Stacey Toda, director of Communications and Community Engagement.
Police have not officially identified any suspect yet but a report will be filed.
“We haven’t identified the name of the student or the driver yet but we will include it in the police report,” said Stinson.
