Belmont Shore mystery vehicle revealed as LBCC outreach van

Long Beach City College unveiled a mystery vehicle at the 35th Belmont Shore Car Show on Sept. 13.

The mystery vehicle was unveiled to be a promotional van designed to draw prospective students looking to enroll in one of LBCC’s many programs.

“This car was brought out today to promote outreach in the community and bring in any potential students looking to enroll in one of our programs,” Montse Venegas, a member of LBCC’s public affairs and marketing team, said.

Jade Rodriguez, an LBCC student, said she was surprised to see the college represented at a community car show, and was going to unveil a mystery vehicle.

“I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I saw the car. I was very excited to see what kind of car they would have out on display to represent the school,” Rodriguez said.

Although LBCC had a prime location, some spectators felt that the college’s booth was overshadowed by the Vietnam War-era helicopter parked right next to it. 

“I did not see the van, as it kind of blended in with its surroundings, but I’ll definitely have to check it out later if I get the chance,” spectator Ayden Trang said.

Venegas said LBCC’s automotive technology program is working on two vintage cars for the college’s centennial celebration in 2027.

Venegas said students, staff and alumni should prepare to celebrate LBCC’s 100th anniversary in 2027.

No official details regarding the celebration have been announced, but LBCC is expected to release more information as the date approaches. 

In the meantime, LBCC will host a Cars and Coffee event on Oct. 10th from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at the  Trades, Technology and Community Learning Campus off PCH. 

The event will feature many unique cars, giveaways, and a racing simulator challenge. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own vehicles to display.

The event gave LBCC an opportunity to share college resources with the community and connect with prospective students considering enrollment.
