Vikings men’s soccer forward Jeremiah Omishakin scored his first goal of the season to help LBCC secure a 3-1 home victory over Santa Ana College on Sept. 25.
The victory extended the Vikings’winning streak to three games following victories over Mohave Community College and College of the Desert, with LBCC scoring three goals in each game.
“I mean, we have a good group, so when you have the lead, it gives you a little sense of, you know, just a little extra sense of comfort,” LBCC coach Jorge Reyes said of the team’s steady control of the game.
The Vikings got a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first half before slowing the pace down during the second, conceding and scoring one goal, as they started to lock down the defensive side of the game.
“I think you guys have a great team,” Alessandro Torres, captain of Santa Ana’s soccer team, said. “You guys know how to hold the ball. Maybe we just had a little bit of a hard time adjusting and adapting to what was going on in the game and stuff,” Torres added.
Santa Ana had just come from a four-game unbeaten streak, with three wins and one draw, scoring a total of 13 goals and only conceding three.
“We had to overcome a lot of stuff to get there, and I personally think it was our best game,” Viking forward Chayse Owens said of LBCC’s performance.
“You know three goals is not a bad day and conceding one we would like to keep a clean sheet but one goal is not too shabby,” Reyes said.

Despite the solid defensive work of the Vikings’, they conceded a penalty in the 58th minute,
after a foul inside the penalty box. Santa Ana midfielder Diego Guzman converted the penalty.
“We kind of preach that whatever happens on the field stays on the field and anything outside it, just let it be,” Reyes said when asked about the atmosphere of the game.
Along with the penalty, eight yellow cards were issued, four to the Vikings.
Not only was the atmosphere heated on the field, but also in the stands, where spectators loudly cheered for their teams and expressed their frustrations throughout the match.
