Late walk-off hit leads to the Vikings softball team win

By Abel Reyes

Freshman left fielder Maria Aguilar saved LBCC with her walk-off hit to win the game 2-1 against visitor Rio Hondo on Mar. 12.

The Vikings and Roadrunners were struggling the whole game, making the game go into an 8th inning.

The Roadrunners were the first to score in the 8th after an error made by the Vikings.

Freshman pitcher Noelany Benitez only pitched five hits, one base on balls, and no earned runs.

“I felt really confident in the game today, and I thought that I had really good game today,” said Benitez.

The Vikings are coming off from a two game losing streak against Pasadena College and Orange Coast College.

LBCC won against Rio Hondo earlier this season 12-5, but the team did not come in cocky, but prepared.

“We wanted to get back in the win column, and it didn’t matter that we beat Rio Hondo earlier,” said Head Coach Megan Martinez.

Aguilar was not feeling confident in the beginning of the game but kept confidence in her teammates.

There was two bases loaded in the final inning when Aguilar had her walk-off hit.

“It felt like heaven,” Aguilar said.

The Vikings enhance to 13-7 overall, and 6-4 in the South Coast Conference.

The Vikings are set to play East Los Angeles next, who they have previously beat 9-1, earlier this season, the game will be on Mar. 14 at 3 p.m.
