By Isaiah Zuniga

The Veteran’s Club had their first meeting of the semester on Tuesday, March 3, the Veteran’s Club met in A1029, at the Liberal Arts Campus, at 1:30 p.m.

The Veteran’s Club has been around since the 1930s. The club consists of solely former and current veterans of the military or family members of veterans.

Enrique Gonzalez, who is the president of Veteran’s Club, offered some guidance for those that are a part of the club or that are interested in joining.

“We are the people that will support you guys, who are former or current vets or if you have a family member that’s a vet, we, as a club or community, want to use the similarity of the military, to build a friendship and family-like environment,” Gonzalez said.

The only requirements to enter the Veteran’s Club is a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, be taking at least 3 units, and to have completed the Vikings volunteer application.

Joseph Matthews, who is a current student and a veteran, expressed what the club means to him.

“This club means a lot to me because these individuals are just like me. This is a family of vets and vets,” Matthews said.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of this club and sharing these experiences with these people.”

At their first meeting of the semester, one of the main talking points was about the positions of the club.

Gonzalez said, “All of the positions are open if you feel like you’re able to handle the workload that comes with the position.”

Michelle Sandoval, a member, immediately offered her services for the social media representative.

“I would like to be the social media representative because I currently run a business through social media, so I have experience on how to promote events and other such things,” Sandoval said.

The club president made it clear, “This isn’t just a regular club, okay? This is where we’re all going to come to get support and support each other.”

The Veteran’s Club meets every Tuesday, at the Liberal Arts Campus, in room A1029, at 1:30 p.m., and if someone is unable to make that set time for the meeting, the club will accommodate for the students and vets that are unable to make the time period.
