On Monday, ASB sent an email to the LBCC public, announcing that April’s ASB election was invalidated and that there will be a re-election, a message that comes two weeks after these initial announcements at the ASB meeting on May 4.

When the Dean of Student Affairs Deborah Miller-Calvert was asked on May 8 why the invalidation and re-election wasn’t announced in a more public manner than in the meeting, which is a setting where students are rarely seen in attendance, she responded, “I guess the ASB didn’t do that. It was public in the ASB meeting.”

When the Viking tried to get ASB adviser Kim Hamon to comment on the recent election invalidation and re-election that same day, they did not comment, adding that Calvert’s interview spoke for them.

“I know that you talked to my dean and so any information that she shared with you would be what I would share with you,” said Hamon.

The new election opened today at 8 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, according to LBCC’s student life Instagram page.

The informational email also mentions a reason for the re-election, stating that “due to unforeseen technical issues with the election vendor’s system, the College was unable to validate the results of the April 2026 ASB election.”

Miller-Calvert, on May 8, had told the Viking about this issue more in depth, stating that those who were in charge of counting votes could not see the results at all, and therefore could not verify that each person who voted was a student.

Hamon mentioned in an interview with the Viking on April 28 that the ASB administration was actively verifying results.

When the Viking asked Miller-Calvert on May 8 if the system had been working at one point, she said she was unsure.

According to the email, in this new election, candidates who were on April’s election ballot will re-run and “no additional candidates will be added.” Write-in candidates, as with the previous election, are welcome.

The positions for election are the role of ASB president, student trustee, vice president of Legislative Affairs, ASB secretary and ASB treasurer, with all candidates uncontested except for student trustee.

Candidates for student trustee include Elepise Leiataua, the current student trustee, and Angeline Anderson, the current ASB secretary.

The other candidates include current ASB president Priince Bass who is rerunning forASB president, Christopher Ragsdale, who is running for Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Heather Rodriguez, running for ASB secretary, and Julian Johnson for ASB treasurer.

Students can vote by logging into their student portal and going to the Viking Engagement page, or at this link
