Art club hosts fundraiser for end-of-year celebration

The Club D’Art, a club on campus for artists, held a commission fundraiser on May 14 for an end of the semester celebration in which students paid to have club members draw anything the student wanted.

Club President Miya De Vera wanted to treat her club members as the semester draws to an end and prepare for next semester.

“We’re really hoping to treat our students to kind of an end of year bash, like food, but also a lot of the money we use goes to supplies for fundraising or creating community events,” De Vera said.

Each member had their own station to work at and specialized in certain subjects and art styles.

Gael Frausto, a fashion design major, commissioned a piece from the club.

“I wanted a drawing of Kairi Sane because I love her fashion and I’m a big fan of her in general,” Frausto said.

Sane is a Japanese actress and wrestler who is popular for her pirate princess persona.

Sane is very notable for her pirate inspired fashion and carrying a ship’s wheel. She has won several championships in both Japan and the United States, becoming the longest reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside fellow Japanese wrestler Asuka.

Frausto’s interest in fashion design stemmed from the COVID pandemic and the urge to branch out from all black clothing with Sane providing big inspiration with her colorful and flashy pirate outfits.

Social media manager Heaven Jimenez praises the club for its inclusive atmosphere.

“I know a lot of people are shy with their artwork and they’re not sure if Club D’Art is right for them. I would say pop in and just say you’re interested. You know, we’re very welcoming,” Jimenez said.

Average club meetings involve event planning and working on special projects like making magazines full of artwork from the members.

“There’s a lot of great opportunities and great things to learn from Club D’Art and we’re really looking forward to seeing new members next year,” Jimenez said.

Students with artistic interests are welcomed and encouraged to join the club next semester or stop by for a meeting with club members being described as supportive and constructive with new members.
