LBCC Host campus workshop to improve student resumes

The Long Beach City College Career Center hosted a resume building workshop at the Liberal Arts Campus on Oct. 23, to help students prepare for future jobs and improve their professional skills.

Roughly 20 students attended the workshop to learn how to create a strong and effective resume.

Dual enrollment counselor Quinn Doan, helped organize the event and explained the original reason behind planning the workshop.

Doan explained that the workshop was originally requested for student employees, but was opened to all students to provide more learning opportunities.

“Students can receive help even if they are new to the process, we’re here to support them,” Doan said.

Doan stressed the importance of resumes, saying they help students develop the skills needed to land an interview.

The workshop covered common mistakes, such as spelling errors and not adjusting a resume to fit a job.

“The biggest mistake I see is not proofreading,” Doan said, explaining that students should check their work before submitting a resume.

LBCC student Araceli Gonzalez attended the workshop to learn how to make her resume stand out to employers.

“I wanted to learn how to make my resume look more professional and have a better chance of getting a job,” Gonzalez said.

Student Isabela Rodriguez participated to learn what employers look for when reviewing resumes.

“I learned that it’s important to include my skills and experience and make sure everything is organized,” Rodriguez said.

The event gave students an opportunity to learn useful skills and feel more prepared to apply for jobs and internships.
