At this month’s board of trustee meeting, an award for classified employee of the year was given to Matriculation Program Assistant, Kemberly Quiroz.
The meeting was meant to show appreciation to Quiroz for her excellent work ethic and commitment to the academic success of her students at the ceremony.
In an appreciation speech, Quiroz’s immediate supervisor, Dr. Sonia De La Torre, highlighted Quiroz’s outstanding contributions to LBCC and the Welcome Center.
“I feel very honored, especially coming from Dr. Sonia De La Torre, who is my direct supervisor. For her to see that in me is completely an honor,” Quiroz said, reflecting on the significance of obtaining this award.
During the occasion, Quiroz’s influence on LBCC students was also emphasized. President of the UMOJA club April Brown talked about Quiroz’s mentoring and good impact at the Welcome Center.
“She (Kemberly Quiroz) always teaches me and her peers around to be kind towards people…There are some situations in the Welcome Center where I get frustrated, and Kemberly has taught me to stay calm and positive while also trying to get my point across. I have learned a lot from her,” Brown said.
Brown further reflected on Quiroz’s impact, stating, “I just see that the works and seeds that LBCC planted have grown, and Kemberly is able to showcase that seed that was planted years ago. She truly deserves this award.”
Quiroz prioritizes students above all else, but she also has a strong commitment to supporting faculty members and staff.
This can be seen as the catalyst on becoming the Long Beach City College Classified Employee of the Year.
“I just love helping the students in the Welcome Center; students are my priority there. So, this award is just a reflection of that,” Quiroz said.
Kemberly Quiroz’s selection as the Classified Employee of the Year highlights LBCC’s commitment to recognizing exceptional employees who have positively influenced the campus community.
Quiroz continues to make a lasting impression on both students and colleagues at Long Beach City College with her constant dedication and guidance.
