Lakewood High School goes on lockdown after false bomb threat

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood station responded to a bomb threat at Lakewood High School at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. According to the Sheriff’s Department, no threat was found and class resumed at 2 p.m. 

A detective unit and canine unit was dispatched to the school along with the deputies. Students mostly remained in their classrooms during the lockdown, but some were moved to the auditorium. 

Multiple students reported that during the lockdown, makeshift bathrooms that consisted of buckets in a closet were set up in the classrooms so students who needed to use the restroom could do so. 

“They’re making students pee in a bucket,” Lakewood High School student Madalyn Marin said. “Like, that’s awful.”

The nearly three-hour lockdown sparked fear in parents whose students attended the school, prompting them to wait outside the school to make sure their kids were safe once released.

Despite the seriousness of the threat, many Lakewood students seemed unfazed by the event, being mostly bored during the lockdown. 

“To be honest we were just on our phones playing around and messing around,”  Lakewood High School sophomore Daniel Portillo said. 

After the lockdown was lifted and no threat was found, worried parents reunited with their students and class continued as usual.
