LBCC clubs welcome students during Join a Club Day

Long Beach City College presented the first day of Join a Club Day on Monday, Sept. 14 with more than 70 clubs at the Liberal Arts Campus.

With it being three weeks into the semester many LBCC club members are looking forward to welcoming and providing a safe space for new members. 

“So, I think Psych Club is really inspiring for people who want that sense of community and for people who feel like maybe there’s not a place where they can really be their authentic selves and truly belong, we want to be that sense of belonging for people,” Psych Club President Jaden Jones said. 

Clubs at LBCC are determined to use their events as a way to provide a variety of opportunities for Vikings. 

LBCC UNITY (Umoja), a social club dedicated on improving the cultural and educational experiences of Black and African American students, participated in Join a Club Day. Umoja hosts events that could help students who are seeking to pursue an education at a university or college.

“And I would say our events are pretty important especially our conferences because those are really good opportunities to kinda network and branch out to universities and colleges,” Umoja Treasurer Janelle Rodgers said.

Students who helped host Join a Club Day offered encouraging words and opportunities to incoming freshmen.

“For incoming freshmen, I would say, the Associated Club Senate, we were able to show students what the clubs that we have on campus and kind of help them build a community because a lot of incoming students might be scared or not aware of the resources we have,”  Associated Club Senate President Stephanie Osuna said. 

For some Vikings, Join a Club Day was interesting because it introduced a variety of clubs that centered around their interests. 

“I think honestly being able to see all the different opportunities that we have here and sort of outreach to classes or maybe interests here,” LBCC student Noelle Navarro said.

Join a Club Day at the Liberal Arts Campus officially ended on Sept. 17.

For students who are still interested in joining clubs, the Trades, Technology and Community Learning Campus will host a club day on Sept. 24.
