Vikings Women’s soccer forward Lexy Urias scored a brace and contributed an assist during a dominant 13-0 victory over Los Angeles Harbor College on Oct. 13, which extended the Vikings’ winning streak to 9 games in a row.
The Vikings had complete control of the game from the very beginning, maintaining possession of the ball constantly and taking it back as quickly as they lost it.
LBCC overwhelmed the Compton defense through the entirety of the first half, putting up seven goals and giving up zero.
“I think we all pretty much just wanted it more. During the half time talk, Coach Tino told us to keep hunting, keep staying on them. I think we had them during the first half,” Vikings forward Kayla Punsaian said.
The Vikings would continue their avalanche of goals, scoring 6 more with half of the starting eleven players being substituted out, showcasing the true depth of their roster.
“It gives other players opportunities to step on the field. They want to showcase themselves as well. We don’t want to restrict them too much because we want to allow them to be able to do their thing,” Coach Tino Nunez said. “We got some things together and I’m happy for the whole group.”

The Vikings were recently voted as the No. 1 team in California in a 3C2A poll of the women’s soccer season, further highlighting the impressive accomplishments of the team.
“It definitely feels nice to be recognized as one of the best, but that also means that we have a target on our back. Our coach keeps us humble by showing up everyday to practice and still getting to work,” Punsaian said.
Even with this great achievement that the team has obtained, both coaches and players all agree that a key point in their team’s success is maintaining humility and keeping a close connection with their teammates.
“He always reminds us what our strengths are in everything that we do and what works for us. I feel like when he does that, it emphasizes how we are as a team in our style of play, which reinforces the idea of what we can do and how we know how to play,” Viking Midfielder Arabella Rosales said.
The impressive wins that the team has accumulated in the past few weeks have only caused the teams confidence to grow.
“We got two big games next week and then playoffs so I think with the momentum that we’ve been gaining throughout these games, we hope to go forward and continue playing like how we know,” added Rosales.
The Vikings played their next game against Compton on Oct. 20, where they won 11-0.
