A DJ played music as students and attendees danced and enjoyed the festivities at Long Beach City College’s Fall into Homecoming event on Oct. 28 at the W Courtyard, bringing students together for an afternoon of music, games and activities.

Staff also handed out free Fall into Homecoming T-shirts, snow cones, food and prizes.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in games at different booths, including toy car races on Hot Wheels tracks, limbo and a pie-in-the-face game.

Other activities included making bracelets, painting pumpkin pictures and creating pins, giving students a chance to get creative and enjoy the event.

Jessica Rodriguez, a pre-nursing major at LBCC and member of the Biology Club, helped host one of the event’s booths. Rodriguez said events like these give students an opportunity to connect with others.

“I think it gives them an opportunity to talk to people that maybe they wouldn’t have otherwise,” Rodriguez said.

She also enjoyed watching attendees win prizes, saying, “I think it’s really fun to see how happy they get.”

For some students, the event also provided an opportunity to learn more about clubs and activities available on campus.

Ross Trujillo, an anthropology major and first-year student, said he attended after hearing about the event through student senate meetings.

He enjoyed seeing the different clubs represented and learning about opportunities to get involved.

“Maybe I can join this club. I can see other people throughout the semester,” Trujillo said.

Students also shared how events like Fall into Homecoming help create a sense of community on campus.

Adi Gummalam, an early childhood education major, said the event gives students “that sense of a college life while also being a community college.” Gummalam said.

Kayley Lopez, a pastry major, also shared how campus events can bring students together.

“I feel like it could help because it builds a community,” Lopez said.

For students, events like Fall into Homecoming offer more than just games and activities. They also create opportunities to meet new people, discover campus clubs and become part of the LBCC community.
