Students visited university booths to learn about majors admission requirements and opportunities available at different schools at Long Beach City College’s annual University Transfer Fair on Oct. 27.
The event gave students the opportunity to explore universities, learn about academic programs and ask representatives questions about transferring
Jose Lozano, a recruiter and advisor at Pepperdine University, shared information about Pepperdine’s academic programs admission requirements as well as advice for transferring students.
“Wherever you get admitted, my biggest advice would be to experience the campus and see if you like the environment,” Lozano said
For some students, the fair provided an opportunity to explore universities that align with their academic goals.
Sharice Miller, an LBCC computer science major student, is interested in transferring to Cal Poly to pursue both computer science and fashion design. She attended the fair to learn about other options as she began preparing for the transfer process.
“Honestly, it’s never too early to start looking, know what you want to do so it’s easy to plan,” Miller said.
Financial aid is another important factor students consider when choosing a university. For Miller, financial assistance plays a significant role in making higher education possible.
“For me, it’s very important because it helps me pay for it. Without financial aid, I wouldn’t be able to attend school,” Miller said.

Kirsten Sumpter, an advisor for the College of the Arts at California State University, Long Beach, said the university offers students a variety of academic opportunities and wants transfer students to feel supported throughout their education.
“I wish transfers knew that we want you to come here and we want to support you once you’re here and we want to see you succeed,” Sumpter said.
Sumpter also encouraged students to review transfer admission requirements, complete the necessary steps and meet deadlines as they prepare to apply.
As students consider their next steps, researching universities, understanding admission requirements and exploring financial aid options can help them make informed decisions about their educational futures.
The deadline for both the UC and Cal State undergraduate applications for the Fall 2027 semester is Nov. 30, 2026.
