One person killed and a 17-year-old girl wounded in two separate shootings near TTC campus

 Several calls to the Long Beach Police Department were made Wednesday afternoon after gunshots were heard near TTC in two separate incidents, leaving one person dead and another wounded. 

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area near 21st Street and Cerritos Avenue, just a few blocks from TTC. Officers found one male adult with a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to an emailed statement from LBPD.  

The Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The motive and suspect information is under investigation as police believe the shooting was possibly  gang-related and a press release will be issued at a later time.

Later in the afternoon, police were dispatched to multiple reports of gunshots in the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue, across the street from the park.  

“I don’t know…I just heard pop…pop…pop and then I stayed inside. I am too scared to go outside,” said a resident who lives in the area and asked not to be identified.  

Officers found a 17-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the lower body and administered immediate medical aid until the LBFD arrived to transport her to a local hospital where she remains stable. 

A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot at the park and the suspect fled before LBPD arrived.

The shooting happened near the bathrooms at the park and the area was taped off as a crime scene so investigators combed the area for evidence of possible gang activity.

Another homicide shooting occurred on Sept. 7 near the 1900 block of Long Beach Boulevard.

Police found a female adult victim with a gunshot wound. Officers rendered immediate aid, but the victim later died of her injuries. 

The suspect information, motive and the circumstances of the incident are under investigation, according to a press release.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification from next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
